BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Injuries Reported in Newark North Ward Police Car Crash

A car crash that involved a police vehicle in Newark has emergency responders on the scene for injuries at this time.

Rescue crews rushed to the intersection of Broadway and 4th Avenue after receiving reports of a crash at that location.

According to Newark Police officials, there are injuries after a civilian vehicle collided with a police cruiser at around 5:59 a.m. but the severity of the injured cannot be confirmed at this time.

On scene, reporters are stating that EMS transported at least one police officer to an area hospital.

Police are diverting traffic in the area so expect so delays near the Technology High School.

UPDATE NPD 8:55 a.m. Preliminary information is that a police car occupied by two officers was struck at 5:54 a.m. today by a civilian vehicle at Broadway and 4th Avenue. Another civilian vehicle was struck as well.

The Newark Fire Deptment extracted the civilian driver from one vehicle. We are still gathering information, but all drivers remained on the scene.

The extracted driver and both officers were transported to University Hospital.

The officers' injuries are pain-related.
