BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Fire Tears Through Vacant Home in Newark

There are no injuries immediately reported for victims of a house fire that occurred early Friday morning in Newark.

According to preliminary reports, heavy fire tore through the roof of a house located at 421 South 15th Street, sending firefighters to the scene where they found thick smoke billowing from the three-story wood framed house vacant home.

As crews began to extinguish the blaze, they were told that there was at least one person possibly trapped on the third floor of the structure. Officials say as of 6:05 a.m., crews continued to fight heavy fire that engulfed the house.

Residents say squatters were observed in the house on numerous occasions.
