BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Critical Injuries in Double Newark South Ward Shootings

Police have two crime scenes setup in separate locations in the city's South Ward as detectives investigate shootings that left one person injured a short time ago.

In the first incident, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 289 West Runyon Street sending police to the scene where they found a male victim suffering gunshot to the chest at around 3:22 p.m.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where he is in critical condition at this time.

Police located several shell casings during their search of the area but the suspect remains at-large.

At around 3:30 p.m., reports of shots fired sent police to the 100 block of Avon Avenue where a thourough canvass of the scene had officers find shells casing, but no victims.

It is not clear at this time if the shootings are related.

Avoid both areas for the police investigations.
