BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Child Shot in Newark's Central Ward

There are a host of emergency responders n the scene of a shooting that has a child injured in the city's Central Ward at this time.

According to preliminary reports, a ShotSpotter activation that alerted police of a shooting that occurred in the area Broad and West Kinney streets had police on the scene canvassing for victims.

After a brief search of the area, officers found a teenaged boy -around the age of 13- in the 60's block of Sayre Street just before 6:30 p.m.

The victim was transported to University Hospital suffering a severe gunshot wound to the leg according to reports.

Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway at this time.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

**UPDATE: 6:47 PM Stable condition for the young man. Prayers for his fast healing. The suspect remains at-large at this time. Officers on the scene provided life-saving techniques to assist the boy.**
