Essex County authorities have confirmed a shooting that left a male victim dead at a location in Newark's South Ward Monday afternoon.
According to a preliminary investigation, multiple rounds of gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 118 Maple Avenue at approximately 2:02 p.m.
When Newark South Ward officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim struggling to stay alive after a suspect fired several shots that struck him at that location.
Police say the victim was rushed the short distance to Beth Israel Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
The Essex County Prosector’s Office has been notified of the shooting and are responding to the scene to lead the investigation.
The suspect remains at-large.
