There is an active crime scene established in a neighborhood in Newark’s South Ward as police investigate a shooting that has two people wounded at this time.
According to preliminary reports, residents in the single-digit block of Hillside Avenue scrambled for cover after gunmen began spraying the area with bullets in an attempt to get their target just before 5 p.m.
Police arrived and found multiple shell casings on the ground but after they searched the area, no victims were found.
A short time later, officials at University Hospital notified police that two people suffering gunshot wounds entered the emergency department.
The suspects fled the scene and remain at-large police said.
Authorities have not released the condition of the victims at this time.
