BREAKING NEWARK: Gunfire Strikes Three in Newark’s West Ward

Police have a two-block radius shutdown on Sanford Avenue as officers canvas the scene for a suspect wanted for a shooting in the West Ward that struck three victims.

According to police, a gunman arrived in the area of Sunset and 18th avenues at approximately 4:40 p.m. then opened fire in the direction of the victims.

Police say two of the injured are suffering life-threatening wounds while a third patient is non-life threatening.

The suspect ran from the scene wearing a multi-colored jacket according to reports.

There is a heavy police presence in the area so avoid for the investigation. Irvington and Maplewood are on the assist.

UPDATE 5:10pm This is going to be a confirmed homicide investigation for one victim. Two others are en route to University Hospital for treatment.
