Newark Emergency responders are on the scene of a crash with a car fire in a section of the city's South Ward at this time.
It happened at approximately 5:40 a.m. near the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Fabyan Place.
Police say the speeding car lost control then slammed into a pole causing the vehicle to ignite into flames. There are no reports of a police pursuit at this time.
Police have Lyons Avenue closed from Wainwright to Faybyan Place.
PSE&G crews were called to the scene to repair the pole with downed wires.
There were no severe injuries reported.
