The Essex Couty Prosecutor’s Office would only confirm severe injuries for victims of a violent car crash that occurred in Newark’s Downtown on Sunday evening.
According to police, the explosive collision happened around 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of Broad and Central Avenue.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and found one of the vehicles flipped on its side and severely damaged.
Police say the second vehicle had at least one person trapped inside who was extricated then transported to the hospital.
About six victims were taken to University Hospital in serious to stable condition.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation.
