BREAKING: Multi-Alarm Fire Tears Through Building in Newark's East Ward

Newark East Ward Firefighters are on the scene battling a massive fire ignited inside a building in a section of the city's East Ward.

According to preliminary reports from the location, heavy fire tore through a four-story mixed-use building located in the vicinity of 221 Miller sending firefighters to the scene to investigate around 5:40 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found ferocious flames engulfing much of the building, with smoke billowing on all floors. 

Newark Fire officials struck a second, then a third alarm for manpower as they stretched several lines to pour water on the flames.

As of 6:18 a.m., there were no immediate reports of injuries and the fire had not been placed under control.
