There is a crime scene established in a neighborhood in Mountainside as police investigate a pursuit that resulted in shots fired this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, Union Police began to chase a vehicle that refused to stop where the driver threatened suicide then continued to speed westbound on Route 22.
Reports say the driver made his way onto Robin Hood Road where he then bailed from the vehicle, reportedly with a gun in his possession.
There were confirmed shots fired during the course of the foot pursuit but there is no confirmation on who fired the shot at this time.
The suspect was struck by a bullet and rushed to University Hospital in Newark in serious condition.
The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
There were no reports of injuries to police officers.
