BREAKING MAPLEWOOD NJ: Serious Injuries Reported in NJ Transit Bus Crash

Emergency responders are on the scene of a crash that involves a NJ Transit bus in Maplewood at this time.

The crash happened at around 1:20 in the 1400 block of Springfield Avenue when a bus collided head-on with a garbage truck according to preliminary reports.

A spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office has only confirmed one serious injury and about three other non-life threatening injury at this time.

ECPO UPDATE 4:45pm: Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crash and Fire Investigative Unit and the Maplewood Police Department are investigating a crash that resulted serious injuries to a NJ Transit bus driver and four other people.

Authorities said at approximately 12:45 today there was a head-on collision between a NJ Transit bus and a garbage truck. The collision occurred near 1450 Springfield Avenue.

The NJ Transit bus driver, who was the sole occupant of the bus, is undergoing surgery.

The driver and passengers of the dump truck were also transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious bodily injuries.
