Police have a section of an apartment complex taped off and secured while detectives investigate a deadly shooting in Newark at this time.
Officers raced to The Garden Spires Housing complex located at 175 1st Street after receiving reports of shots fired just before noon.
Upon arrival, police found a severely injured, unconscious, and unresponsive male suffering a bullet wound to his head on the left side of the parking lot.
Medical professionals pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Witnesses said an armed male suspect approached the victim near the security booth and fired at point-blank range then ran from the scene.
One person was detained and a weapon was recovered.
Residents inside the Garden Spires are telling RLS Media that the building is on lockdown.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been assigned the incident and will lead the active and ongoing investigation.
