Essex County homicide detectives are on the scene of a suspicious death of a man found dead on a street in Newark’s South Ward.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the 600 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue near Dayton Street to investigate reports of a person shot.
Units arrived and found an unconscious, unresponsive and unidentified man lying on the ground, suffering what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Newark Police officials notified The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, which are now leading the active and ongoing investigation at this time.
