Authorities are the scene of a shooting with a male victim dead in a section of Newark's South Ward.
According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the vicinity of Avon Avenue and South 10th Sreet around 1 p.m.
Police arrived and found an unconscious and unresponsive male lying in the street at that location.
Police say the victim was shot by an unknown assailants occupying a dark colored Jeep Cherokee with temp tags.
The suspects fled northbound on South 11th from Avon.
Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead shortly after the shooting.
The Essex County Prosecutors Office has been notified.
