BREAKING KEARNY NJ: Armed Man Barricaded Inside Vehicle at Post Office in Kearny

There is a massive police presence that includes NJ State Police, Kearny Police, The FBI, and SWAT at the scene of an armed and barricaded man inside a vehicle at the post office in Kearny at this time.

According to preliminary reports, an unidentified man inside a vehicle with a gun on his lap in the parking lot of the post office has police at bay.

Police are negotiating with the man in an attempt to have him get out of the vehicle and surrender peacefully at this time.

NJ State Police has the NJ Turnpike exits and entrances closed to all traffic which is causing heavy delays in the area.

**UPDATE 12:55 p.m.** Standoff is over; suspect has been taken into custody.

**UPDATE 1:49 p.m.** This morning several police agencies responded to the U.S. Postal facility at 1200 Harrison Avenue on a report of an armed man asleep in his car. The man was successfully taken into custody without injury.

A gun was recovered from the car and confirmed to be a type of BB/pellet gun.

There is no threat to the public.

There are no injuries reported and everyone inside the post office is safe.
