BREAKING IRVINGTON TOWNSHIP NJ:Teenaged Boy Shot Dead in Irvington Township

Police in Irvington Township has a crime scene that stretches from Springfield Avenue down Clinton Avenue to the high school as officers investigate a shooting that fatally injured a child this afternoon.

According to preliminary reports delivered to RLS Metro Breaking News from Irvington Township Police, gunfire rang out in the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue at around 3 pm sending a massive police presence to the scene where they found a young boy suffering a gunshot wound.

The victim, who appeared to have just left school, was found lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive with his bookbag on suffering gunshot wounds according to a statement released by Irvington Police officials.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where the unidentified boy died a short time later Irvington Police officials told RLS Metro Breaking News.

Police and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are searching for evidence at the scene.

Police detained an unidentified person on Cummings but it is not clear if the person is wanted for the shooting.

Expect delays and detours on Springfield and Clinton avenues as authorities investigate.
