There are serious injuries reported for a child who was struck by a vehicle in Irvington Township this afternoon.
Details are continuing to develop but according to preliminary reports, at approximately 3:20 p.m. emergency responders rushed to the vicinity of Springfield and Maple avenues where they arrived to find the victim lying on the ground at that location.
The victim.was rushed to University Hospital where doctors began treating the unidentified child’s injuries.
Police set up a crime scene where they began to investigate the cause of the incident.
**UPDATE 4:59 PM IPD:** “8-year-old child was struck by a motorist at the intersection of maple and Springfield avenue this afternoon. The child is in critical but stable condition at this time. The Irvington Police Department is conducting the Investigation into incident along with The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The motorist that struck child remained on the scene.”
There were no other injuries reported.
