BREAKING: High-Speed Police Pursuit Ends in Crash with Severe Injuries in Newark’s North Ward

Emergency responders from Newark rushed to the scene of a violent crash that has at least two individuals severely injured in the city’s North Ward this evening.

According to preliminary information, NPD-1 Helicopter tracked a high-speed pursuit that involved about four police departments, including Clifton, Belleville, and Lodi, coming into Newark on Route 21 around 9:20 p.m.

Those police departments were in high-pursuit of a white Jeep Cherokee -believed stolen- that refused to stop after police attempted to pull the driver over.

Police say NPD-1 observed aerial views of the pursuit speed through several streets in Newark, then enter the intersection of Park Avenue and North 9th Street, where the suspected driver of the Jeep slammed into a civilian vehicle and one other car.

The impact of the collision caused the suspect to eject from the vehicle with serious injuries. He was rushed to University Hospital under police guard for treatment.

Police say one occupant inside a civilian vehicle also suffered serious injury from the crash.

There were no police officers injured and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Officer, were notified of the collision.

East Orange Police arrived to assist at the scene with traffic control.
