The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is on the scene of a shooting incident with fatal results in a neighborhood in Bayonne at this time.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 4:22 a.m., residents in the vicinity of 166 West 21st Street were awakened to several rounds of gunfire, forcing them to dial 911.
Several Bayonne Police units arrived at the scene and found an unidentified person inside a vehicle -in a pool of blood- after being shot multiple times at that location.
A female, who was also inside the car, was not injured.
The individual was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police taped off the area while detectives marked off about a dozen shell casings during the investigation.
No arrests have been reported.
