BREAKING: Four Killed After Car Rear-Ends Tractor Trailer in Newark's South Ward

A host of emergency repsonders are on the scene of a horrific crash with deadly results in Newark's South Ward Saturday morning. 

According to preliminary information from the scene, just before 4:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Thorne and Frelinghuysen Avenue to investigate a crash report.  Crash

Upon arrival, police frantically requested EMS and rescue to the scene when they found a car rear-ended a truck and another car severely damaged at that location.

The car that rear-ended the truck was ignited in flames with a downed power line and trapped occupants inside the car.

According to preliminary reports, firefighters stretched three lines to douse the fire, but as many as four severely burned individuals died at the scene.  Crash

One other person was rushed to University Hospital suffering burns and other serious injuries.   

Despite resident's complaints of drag racing on Frelinghuysen Avenue, police have not confirmed if the vehicles were involved in drag racing or in a pursuit among themselves. 

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, State Regional Medical Examiner's Office, and other law enforcement entities are on the scene for the investigation at this time.  Crash
