BREAKING: Elizabeth Church Destroyed by Early Morning Multi-Alarm Fire

Elizabeth Firefighters are on the scene of a multi-alarm fire that's tearing through a church in the city at this time.

According to preliminary reports, the early morning fire that erupted at the Shiloh Baptist Church quickly escalated into a four-alarm blaze when firefighters arrived at the scene and found massive fire beginning to extend to newly built apartments.

Fire offcials say, at approximately 3:10 a.m., they received several calls of a fire inside the church located in the 90's block of Murray Street.

Upon arrival, crews began an exterior attack to beat down flames that started to spread throughout the church, causing portions of it to collapse.

Multiple EMS units were called to the scene to evaluate several elderly residents for possible smoke inhalation inside a nearby nursing home.

As of 3:55 a.m., there are no injuries reported, and the fire has not been declared under control.
