The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is looking into the motive for a double shooting that resulted in fatal injuries overnight in Edison.

According to preliminary reports, the horrific incident happened at the Akbar Indian Cuisine Restaurant located in the 20's block of Cortlandt Street at approximately 1:45 a.m.

Multiple rounds of gunfire erupted sending police officers scrambling to the scene where they arrived to find evidence that a shooting occurred and two victims severely injured after suffering gunshot wounds at that location.

According to police, one of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.

As of 2:30 a.m., we could only confirm that the second victim was 'gravely' injured according to reports.

Police have not released the potential motive for the shooting but are looking for a silver vehicle that was reportedly occupied by several black males that sped from the scene immediately after the shooting.

Middlesex County Prosecutors Office detectives and Edison Police secured the scene then began their search for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.

The investigation into the incident is in its early stages and no arrests have been reported.
