BREAKING: Double Murder Under Investigation in Newark

UPDATE: This incident was a confirmed isolated situation and a suspect is in custody. The public was not in any harm,  according to police. We will post additional info when it becomes available.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has two crime scenes underway as detectives investigate fatal shootings at both locations, which are possibly connected in Newark. 

Circumstances surrounding both homicides are pending an extensive investigation, but according to preliminary reports from the scene, just before 9:30 p.m., Newark Police responded to the vicinity of 146 Haines Avenue  -near the bridge- to investigate reports of shots fired. 

Upon arrival, police found unidentified victims shot dead at that location, according to county officials.

While investigating on Haynes Avenue, police  focused their attention on Bruen and Edison Place and conducted a crime scene. 

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement to RLS Media:  

”The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating a double homicide and have crime scenes at both locations.  It is very early in the investigation and no further information is available”. 

We will have additional information first thing Wednesday morning.
