BREAKING: Critical Injuries Confirmed for Sanitation Technician Struck by Hit-and-Run Car in Newark

Newark Police requested The Essex County Prosecutor's Office to the scene of a pedestrian strike that caused life-threatening injuries to a worker in Newark Wednesday night. 

According to a preliminary investigation, emergency responders rushed to the vicinity of Hawthorne Avenue and Goodwin after they received reports of a person down in the street around  11:23 p.m. 

Upon arrival, police found a sanitation technician -from an independent company- suffering severe leg and facial injuries after a vehicle struck him at that location. 

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition and remain under doctors care, Newark Police officials told RLS Media.  

According to police, a white sedan -possibly a Lincoln - sped away from the scene, heading eastbound on Hawthorne Avenue. 

The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.
