Police are on the scene of a shooting with several victims down at this time in a Newark South Ward neighborhood.
According to a preliminary investigation, police raced to the scene of shots fired in the area of Watson and Elizabeth Avenues around 8:40 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they focused on a house where several reports came in that gunshot victims were inside.
EMS immediately rushed a 7-year-old child to University Hospital suffering a bullet wound to the chest.
According to reports, at least two other victims were shot in the area.
Police say there are other injured individuals but have not confirmed that the injuries are from gunfire at this time.
The Essex County Prosecutor Office has been notified and are responding to the scene.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, so avoid the area. There is at least one arrest made.
