A Morris County jury has convicted a 35-year-old man of murdering his father inside their Boonton Township home on Christmas Eve nearly two years ago, prosecutors announced.
Kyle Meyer, a former Boonton Township resident, was found guilty Monday of murder and related weapons offenses following a seven-day trial, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Meyer will remain held at the Morris County Jail pending sentencing, which is scheduled for February 6.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred around 1 p.m. on December 24, 2023, following an argument between Meyer and his father, Gregory Meyer, 61, at their Old Denville Road residence.

Court records indicate Gregory Meyer was found deceased in the basement with multiple injuries to his leg, head, hands, and fingers.

An axe and a battery-operated pole saw were recovered at the scene.

Investigators reported that Meyer was seen leaving the home by a family member shortly after the incident.

He was arrested approximately eight hours later in Paterson while returning to his parked vehicle.

Prosecutors also noted that Meyer had a prior criminal history and was released from state prison in 2022 after serving a sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm.
