Body of Unidentified Person Found Lying on Street in Newark

Police recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified person that was lying on a street in the city's North Ward during the early morning hours of Monday.

Officials have not released any information on who the person is, but according to preliminary reports, residents observed police place crime scene tape under a bridge in the vicinity of Chester and Riverside avenues before 6 a.m. then saw the medical examiner arrive and put the body in the vehicle.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office could not confirm a homicide investigation for the location according to a spokesperson reached at 4:44 a.m. Tuesday morning.

There are no suspicious activities reported on the incident at this time.

Newark Police have not released the gender and approximate age of the deceased at this time.
