Police recovered the body of an unidentified person in a building in the city's South Ward on Sunday night.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to 29 Stratford Place after they received reports of a medical call at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene found an unconscious, unresponsive and unidentified person in the rear stairwell of the building according to reports.
Medical personnel pronounced the person dead at the scene a short time later.
Police have not immediately reported suspicious activities and the investigation is in its early stages and being handled by The Newark Police Department.
