Body Found Floating in the Passaic River in Newark

Emergency responders recovered the body of an unidentified person floating in the Passaic River this afternoon.   

The body was recovered by the Kearny Fire Department near McCarter Highway and Clay Street around 1 p.m. 

Newark Police closed the right lane of the highway to assist in the investigation. 

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was notified of the incident.   

Police have not released an identity of the gender of the victim at this time.  DEVELOPING
