The Cranford Police Department and Union County Homicide Task Force are asking community members to assist in the investigation of a fatal collision that claimed the lives of two teenage girls Monday evening.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:26 p.m. on September 29, 2025, on Burnside Avenue in Cranford, when the young females were struck while riding an electronic bike.
The Prosecutor’s Office identified the incident as a hit-and-run involving a 2021 black Jeep Compass Utility 4D Altitude 4WD with tinted windows.
Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel urged residents in the vicinity of Hillcrest Avenue, Burnside Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue to review surveillance footage or dashcam video from the time around the crash.
He asked especially for any video that captures the suspect vehicle before, during, or after the collision.
Detectives have released a photo of the Jeep’s make and model and are appealing for witnesses.
