Authorities in Monmouth County announced that a collision between a motorist and a bicyclist that occurred in Atlantic Highlands yesterday evening is under investigation.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago stated that at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Monday, December 22, the Atlantic Highlands Police Department responded to the area of State Route 36 (Memorial Parkway) and First Avenue on a report of a collision.
At that location, first responders encountered the uninjured motorist, a 41-year-old male who had been operating an SUV, as well as the 45-year-old male bicyclist, who had sustained significant injury, according to Monmouth County officials.
MCPO officials say the bicyclist was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized. The motorist remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Monmouth County officials said that an investigation being led by members of the Atlantic Highlands Police Department, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Prosecutor’s Office remains ongoing.
