Berkeley Heights Police Pursuit Ends in Newark

Police in Newark detained two suspects who they believe occupied a vehicle that led a Union County police epartment on a high-speed pursuit ending in the city's South Ward Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary reports, Berkeley Heights Police attempted to pull over a grey Jeep Commander for violating various traffic laws in their town, but the driver sped away from around 3:15 a.m.

Police say the Jeep Commander was accompanied by suspects in a green 2018 Pontiac G5 reportedly stolen out of Perth Amboy.

Both vehicles sped eastbound on I-78 then entered Newark, where Berkeley Heights police lost them in the area of Elizabeth Avenue and East Bigelow Street.

Newark Police said they found the unoccupied crashed Jeep Commander in the vicinity of Clifton Street and Sherman Avenue just before 3:30 a.m

There were no injuries reported.
