New Jersey State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Bergen County man Sunday night.
According to a preliminary investigation released by authorities, the incident occurred around 11:14 p.m. on March 22 on the southbound side of the Garden State Parkway near milepost 167.1 in Washington Township.
Troopers say a BMW SUV, driven by 25-year-old Joel Hernandez of Elmwood Park, was traveling southbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck multiple trees.
Hernandez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
The cause of the incident remains under active investigation. 
No additional information has been released at this time.
