Bergen County Man Charged with Weapons Possession Inside Torched Car

Englewood

County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of John Young, 33, on gun possession and arson charges.

Authorities said on Tuesday, February 16, at approximately 9:14 p.m., the Englewood Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding an SUV on fire.

Englewood Police and Fire personnel arrived on the scene and suppressed the fully involved vehicle fire.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit Arson Task Force was requested to respond and an investigation ensued.

Detective investigations from the Englewood Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Mr. Young set fire to the vehicle.

A search warrant was executed at Mr. Young’s residence, where a handgun was located.

Officials said Mr. Young was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
