Bergen County Man Charged with Engaging in Sexual Contact with Minor

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of Mr. Jose Rios, 43, of Woodland Park on charges of Sexual Assault and Endangering The Welfare Of A Child.

Police say on Thursday, December 12, the Garfield Police Department advised the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office that an unknown male engaged in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16.

As the result of an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Garfield Police Department, the male who traveled to the victim’s residence in Garfield, where they engaged in sexual intercourse, was identified as Rios.

Police say Rios was arrested in Paramus, and charged with one count of Sexual Assault, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c(4), a 2nd degree crime; and one count of Endangering

The Welfare Of A Child, in violation N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a, a 3rd degree crime. Following his December 21, 2019 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court Rios was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing at 9:00 a.m. on December 24, 2019.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Garfield Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
