Bayonne Woman Gets 15 Years for Fatal Woodbridge Stabbing

Bayonne Woodbridge Township

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced today that a 33-year-old Bayonne woman has been sentenced to serve 15 years in a New Jersey state prison for fatally stabbing another Bayonne resident in Woodbridge.

According to authorities, Amarlis Calderon was ordered by the Judge to serve 85 percent of her prison term before becoming eligible for parole for killing Pablo Caamano, 34, on July 18, 2016.

The sentence was imposed in New Brunswick before Superior Court Judge Pedro Jimenez, Jr. on March 23, 2018.

Officials said Calderon pleaded guilty on January 8, 2018 to aggravated manslaughter. The plea was entered before Judge Jimenez after the defendant reached an agreement with Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Dimitri Teresh and Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Eric Snyder.

An investigation by Sgt. Frank Robina of the New Jersey State Police and Detective Craig Marchak of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Calderon, who was walking on Randolph Avenue in Woodbridge, stabbed Caamano when he drove by and stopped to pick her up. The couple knew each other.

According to authorities, Calderon then got into the vehicle and the couple headed toward Interchange 12 on the New Jersey Turnpike, where they pulled to the side of the road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New Jersey State Police initially were alerted on July 18, 2016 at 3:20 a.m. and responded along with members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
