Barricaded Man Incident Ends Peacefully in South River

South River

Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Chief Mark Tinitigan of the South River Police Department said authorities successfully resolved a potentially dangerous situation by taking into custody a male barricaded in his home earlier today.

Tyler Underwood, 22, of South River was taken into custody without incident.

At approximately 9:00 am law enforcement officers from the South River Police Department attempted to make contact with the suspect who was wanted in regard to a burglary and theft at a local convenience store earlier that day in the Borough. When the police arrived at Underwood’s residence, they were denied entry.

Subsequently, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT) was dispatched to the residence after they were alerted that a wanted male had barricaded himself in his South River home.

The incident ended at approximately 1:00 pm when members of SORT made entry and apprehended Underwood without incident.

Acting Prosecutor Kuberiet thanked the professional response from SORT and the South River Police Department who defused a potentially dangerous situation.
