Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable are asking for assistance from the public in identifying a person of interest believed to have information regarding the homicide of Agostinoh Sousa, 40, of Newark.
Sousa was fatally shot on July 26 of this year in the 100 block of Walnut Street in Newark. The victim was walking to the store in the early morning hours when he was shot during an apparent robbery.
The suspects, who were using a dark colored minivan, fled the scene. Surveillance photographs captured a male walking away from the van which had been set on fire. The torched van was discovered on Seabury Street in Newark.
At this time, the person in the photo is a person of interest, not a suspect. Anyone able to identify that person is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force tips line at 1-877-847-7432 or 1-877-TIPS-4-EC.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Crime Stoppers Program is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
