Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating a fourth individual involved in a March shooting that broke out during a birthday celebration in Verona.

According to officials, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Verona Police Chief Christopher Kiernan confirmed that three suspects have already been charged in connection with the gunfire that erupted outside Palmetto Venues on the night of Saturday, March 15, 2025.
An argument that began inside the venue escalated outside, where multiple individuals reportedly exchanged gunfire.
Four people were injured during the incident, though none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Sahid L. Cook, 32, of West Orange, and Jumanne A. McGee, 29, of Orange, are facing charges related to unlawful possession of weapons.
A third suspect, Michael Chatmon, 41, of Newark, has been charged with aggravated assault along with weapons offenses.
The fourth suspect has yet to be identified or located. Authorities say the investigation remains active and are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
“This was a reckless and violent act that placed many lives in danger,” said Prosecutor Stephens in a statement. “While we’ve made progress, we remain committed to identifying and apprehending the final suspect.”
Chief Kiernan expressed gratitude to law enforcement partners who assisted in the case. “I want to thank Prosecutor Stephens and Chief Mitchell McGuire for extending county support to our department. I also appreciate the Newark Police Department and Director Emanuel Miranda for offering their services throughout the investigation.”
