Authorities Seek Assistance in Fatal Verona Hit-and-Run

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Verona Police Chief Mitchell Stern are seeking assistance from the public in identifying individuals who may have been witnesses to a fatal hit and run that occurred in Verona on Friday, June 24.

Businessman and longtime Verona resident, Matthew Beneduce McGrath 59, was crossing, south to north, on Bloomfield Avenue near Hillcrest when he was struck by a motor vehicle.

Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. The victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m.

Authorities are looking to identify the individuals in the photographs who may have been witnesses to the incident.

Red arrows are pointing to those individuals.
