A 20-year-old Somerset man was killed and another person critically injured in a three-vehicle crash early Friday morning in Plainsboro, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Plainsboro Police Chief Eamon Blanchard.

The crash occurred around 1:04 a.m. on August 8 near the intersection of Route 1 South and College Road.

Plainsboro police responding to the scene found an Acura TSX, a dump truck, and a Hyundai Genesis involved in the collision.

An initial investigation, led by Plainsboro Police Officer Richard Wolak and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Detective James Barnes, determined that the Acura TSX struck the rear of the dump truck, forcing the truck into the left lane.

The truck was then hit by the Hyundai Genesis.

The Acura’s driver, identified as Johnathan Martinez, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to Capital Health Medical Center in Trenton, where he remains in critical condition. The drivers of the dump truck and Hyundai sustained minor injuries and are reported to be in stable condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Authorities are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage from the area to contact Officer Dan Titan of the Plainsboro Police Department at 609-799-2333 or Detective Barnes of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3437
