Fatal Gunshot Victim Found Inside Newark House

Officials at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office have not confirmed suspicious activities for a person found suffering a fatal gunshot wound inside a house in Newark’s West Ward on Saturday night.

According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out inside an unspecified residence in the 200 block of South 6th Street shortly before 10:16 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they found an unidentified, unconscious and unresponsive person suffering a bullet wound at that location.

Residents in the neighborhood observed heavy police presence at the home during the incident.

Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were notified of the shooting but no immediate homicide investigation report was released.

Authorities are looking into the possibilities of a self-inflicted gunshot wound but have not confirmed their findings at this time.

There were no other injuries reported and no suspect sought.
