The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will take the initial lead on an investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred in Paterson Saturday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened shortly after midnight in the 50's block of 16th Avenue.
Paterson Police arrived to find an unconscious and unresponsive person suffering bullet wounds at that location. Police say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several Passaic County Police officers, who were on the scene before Paterson Police, were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
As of 3:30 a.m., police officials would not confirm if the shooting was police-involved.
The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.
