Authorities Investigate Body Found near Deli in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating the discovery of a body earlier today in Newark, NJ.

According to authorities, earlier this evening, Newark police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Grove Street near the Coopers Deli  to investigate a suspicious condition.

Arriving officers discovered a decomposed body in a rear yard.

This matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Task Force, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit, who added that the exact cause of death, as well as the race and gender will be determined by autopsy.
