Authorities Identify Taxi Driver Killed in Weekend Crash

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Anaisa Bautista, 23, of Belleville has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the death of Frederick Abbeyson, a Newark taxicab driver.

Bautista, who was driving a Honda, struck and killed Abbeyson, 38, of East Orange at approximately 3 am on Sunday, Sept. 20. The taxicab driver was driving a 2006 Crown Victoria in the 500 block of Broad Street in Newark.

Two passengers in the taxicab sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to University Hospital, along with Bautista. In addition to vehicular homicide, Bautista is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Bail was set at $300,000.

The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the fatal crash.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
