Authorities Identify Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark Police are investigating a pedestrian fatality.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:28 p.m., Sammy Sanders, 60, of Newark was struck by a black Nissan Rogue in the 600 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue.

Sanders was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m.

Authorities said a 27-year-old driver of a Nissan Rogue remained at the scene and was cooperative.

At this time, there has been no charges filed authorities said.

The investigation is active an ongoing.
