Authorities Identify Man Fatally Struck by Truck in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crash and Fire Investigations Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident.

Authorities said at approximately 5:05 p.m. Monday, Richard Williams-Holt, 40, of Newark was struck and killed by a tractor trailer in the vicinity of Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been identified as a 43-year-old Newark man. Authorities said he struck both Mr. Williams-Holt and a parked car.

At this time no charges have been filed. The investigation is active an ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
