Authorities Identify East Orange Man Fatally Shot in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Monday night in Newark where a 39-year- old man was fatally wounded.

According to authorities shortly before 11:00 p.m., Newark police officers responded to the area of 9 Rowley Street on reports of shots fired.

Arriving officers located an unresponsive male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities identified the victim as Walter Page of East Orange, NJ, and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene at 11:08 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
