Authorities Crack Down on Street Racing Operation in Newark's East Ward

Police conducted an overnight operations targeting allegations of street racing on a remote street located in the industrial section of the city Public Safety Direcror Anthony Ambrose said.

Accordig to authorities the operation, was conducted in response to recent community complaints that cars were racing on Foundry Street, Avenue P, Doremus Avenue, Route 21 and Thomas Street with the cars staging in a parking lot on Ferry Street where they wait to race.

Police initiated 18 motor vehicle stops, issued 52 traffic summonses and conducted 14 field contacts during the operation where most of the motorist were Jersey City residents Director Ambrose said.

"We will not tolerate street racing or other activities that needlessly endanger the lives of others. It is particularly disturbing to see that this problem is primarily caused by out-of-towers. These activities aren't tolerated in their towns and won't be tolerated in ours", Director Ambrose said.

We will continue to act on information and complaints provided by our citizens and will continue these initiatives until this problem is abated Ambrose said.
